Film: The Castle

The film is about Kerrigans' story. the Kerrigans family lived near the airport. They loved each other, and their life is full of love and good memories. However, they received a letter from the government, which stated the developer attempted the compulsory acquisition of their house to expand the nearby airport. The family got very angry at the statement, because they had live here for a long time and loved it. they did the best to protect the house. Darryl bravely fought against the developer and the government with his family, his friends and his lawyers. After Kerrigan's hard work, the highest court gave them the justice decision. They won and remained his house.

I think the film is very good, which is full of everything, such as love, friendship, encourage, justice and so on. I like Darryl, like his family, his friends and his lawyers. I reckon "the home is invaluable". As what Darryl said, it is not a house, but a home, and it is not full of brisks and stones, but full of love and memories. A house may be put a price, but one full of love and memories is a home, a family. That is invaluable.

In the meanwhile, I am glad to see the law is justice, which can protect the people and their property.

Happy Mother's Day

The second Sunday in May is the modern Mother's day holiday, which was created by Anna Jarvis in the United States nearly 150 years ago, as a day to honor mothers and motherhood.

In China, Mother's day is becoming more and more popular, too. Sons and daughers gives cards, chocolates or flowers, or say "Happy Mother's day " to their mother. I think the day is the best time to thank mother for everything she has done for us.

Recount of the last Sunday

Last Sunday, my wife and I went to visit one of our best friends near Epping.

My wife and I arrived at Epping by train. One friend and her husband were waiting for us outside the railway station. They took us to their house. Their house was a new town house, and they just moved in about a half year ago. They showed us around. It was very beautiful.

When we sit and chatted in the waiting room, our friend ordered three boxes of pizza on the internet. About 20 minutes later, the pizza was delivered. My wife and I never did that before and thought it was very convenient, and we would try it in future. The pizza was very delicious.

And then, we played poker. The time elapsed quickly, and we had played for two hours. It was time to walk our friend’s dogs, Max and Friday. We saw the dogs running in the park nearby. They looked adorable.

It began to get dark. My wife and I had to catch the train. Our friend took us to the station, and we said goodbye to them. It was really fun.

The Remembrance of ANZAC

ANZAC Day is 25 April each year, when we make a march or parade to remember the brave men and women who have served our country in times of war.

ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Australia soldiers are called Diggers. They bravely fought against enemies in World War One. There were so many heroes in the war, and Simpson was one of them. He put wounded soldiers on the donkey Duffy's back and sent them to the first aid tent. Till now, the story of "Simpson and his donkey " is often told.

Most countries have so many people who work in the army, the navy and the air force--those are called "Defence Forces". They defend or keep the country and the people safe. On ANZAC Day, we wear the ANZAC badges and go to the march in the town and wave the Australian flag to thank the people who have defended the country and show our pride. At the same time, some people can say the famous poem "the Ode":

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

As the saying of the poem"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them", we lay the flowers and the wreaths on the bottom of the war memorials for remembering the people who sacrifice themselves in order to defend the country and the people.

Earth Hour

Next Saturday, the 28th March, Australia will celebrate Earth Hour. I think this is a great idea. As you know, the earth now is in worse and worse situation--global warming, air pollution, water pollution, overpopulation and so on. The earth is our living environment, and we should protect it and learn to live with it.

I join in voting for Earth. At 8.30 pm on Saturday 28th March, my family and I will turn off the lights at home for one hour.

Harmony Day

Last Thursday, we celebrated the Harmony Day at St. George College.

On that morning, when I entered the classroom as usual, I saw some classmates circling the desk. They were discussing something about Harmony Day, holding many kinds of beautiful badges in their hands. I had never heard about the Day before. And then, the teacher, Andrew, explained it to us that ten years ago the government made the decision to have Mar. 21 as Harmony Day, to encourage people from different countries to live with each other harmoniously. The topic of the Harmony Day this year was "Everyone Belongs".

To celebrate the day, there was a celebration meeting in the conference room in Building A. So, Andrew took us there. When we got there, many people gathered and the meeting had begun. A hostess wearing a skirt with a beautiful flowered pattern was making a speech. About ten minutes later, she invited a Chinese girl to play the instrument called "Guzheng" in Chinese. The beautiful rhythm came from her slim fingers. The audience were moved deeply and applauded loudly for the good performance. And then, several persons from different countries made a speech, or sang a songs. They showed the different culture to us. At last, the hostess led all of persons to sing the national anthem and another song. Even though I couldn't sing them, I loved the beautiful rhythm.
